The parcel of this single-family house is located within the core of Bissone, set back from the lakefront, with a single orientation open to the north. Its transformation from a stable to a dwelling is part of the logic of all the rearmost buildings in the core, originally intended as service buildings, over time transformed into residential dwellings. The existing wall structure suggested a composition based on the duality of volume in both plan and elevation with offsets found everywhere in traditional buildings. If the language used externally seeks a dialogue with the existing building, the typology adopted internally deviates from the traditional one: the living floor instead of on the first level is on the upper level so as to take advantage of the more generous roof’s volume, the view and the higher luminosity. The staircase is the fundamental element of passage through the whole house and from which the whole height is perceived.
