The proposed site is located in an area of Mendrisio that has been developed around a series of significant buildings surrounded by majestic gardens: an ensemble of great value both from a historical-cultural point of view and as a new health-school center of regional importance. The project underscores these peculiarities by creating of a new quality public space, clearly bordered to the south by the new building, with a portico facing directly onto the new park on the ground floor. The extension building has three levels above ground, capable of enhancing both the outdoor spaces between the two hospitals and those between the buildings facing along Turconi Street. The new building is kept at the height of most of the surroundings, thus giving importance to the main existing hospital as an exception within the common park.
