The street space is an element that determines the urbanistic qualities of the city. In the Lugano context, the streets and internal routes, originally designed for very low vehicular traffic, must now find a new balance between increased vehicular traffic and the need for pedestrian enjoyment in a context that is hopefully pleasant for all citizens, from pedestrians to motorists. The objective of the study was to analyse and identify examples and references for improving the quality of public space by intervening not only on the street and pavements but also in the private area in contact with the street. Five city streets in different spatial situations were analysed, starting from the centre to the outlying areas.
